Derek Hunter Was Here
"Hey, I thought this was ‘Derek’s top 5 App’ week?! Why did you draw yourself attempting to rock out?"
Yes, this is a drawing of me with my music crap…and that is because one of my favorite apps is Amplitube (w/ iRig)! I know that it’s probably cooler to see me draw stuff like Plants V Zombies and Angry Birds, but I love writing and recording songs on my iPod!
Growing up as a bratty punk rock kid in multiple bands from Jr. High and on through college, I had a special relationship with every 4 track I ever owned, from the Tascam Portastudio MKII to the BOSS BR8.  I would stay up late at night, writing new songs to take to band practice; programming beats on my Boss DR5 and record my guitar parts (no amp) straight into the 4track so I didn’t wake my parents. And then later, recording live in my parent’s basement to make demo tapes to sell at shows…I think my favorite part of being in a band was recording actually.
So when I saw the iRig interface with Amplitube software available for my iPod touch, I knew I needed it! Especially with a new baby, Amplitube’s built-in amp modeling has been perfect for recording like I did on those late nights plugging straight into the recorder…only it sounds great, not like shit. I sound like a marketing goon…and I apologize… but this app easily makes my top 5. It takes me back to the good old days of simple 4-tracking and I love it.
